HOUSTON – On day two at the season-opening Third Coast College Classic, the HCU beach volleyball team lost to a pair of ranked opponents in fourth-ranked TCU and No. 15 Washington.
The Huskies (1-3) first match of the day was a battle of the Huskies, falling to ranked Washington (2-2), 5-0. All five duals ended in two sets with
Gabi Axelrod and
Alisia Silverthorn playing the closest match at the five position, 12-21, 19-21.
In the final match of the day, HCU took on the No. 4 Horned Frogs (4-0). The No. 5 pair of Axelrod and
Audrey Pearce was one of two duos to take their TCU counterparts to three sets, 22-20, 20-22, 8-15. The other was
Abbey Bufkin and
Kylann Griffith at the twos, falling in three, 19-21, 21-17, 5-15.
The Huskies will travel to Baton Rouge, La. next weekend for four matches at the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge on Saturday and Sunday, (Mar. 2-3). HCU is set to face Southern Miss, LSU, North Alabama and Nebraska.
