HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team will be back on its home floor this Thursday with a visit to Sharp Gym by the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders to Sharp Gym with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
 
The last time the Huskies (6-18, 1-12 SLC) and Islanders (17-7, 10-3 SLC) was back on Jan. 3 in Corpus Christi in the conference opener for both teams. HCU took an early 10-4 lead and left by one at the end of the first quarter before TAMUCC pulled away in the second quarter and took a 73-49 win.
 
N'Denasija Collins and Amy Cotton led the Huskies with eight points each in that game while Tove Caesar and Erin Maguire each added seven. Paige Allen led the Islanders with 15 points as one of four players to score at least 10. TAMUCC shot 40 percent (8-of-20) form three in the win while also out-rebounding the Huskies and winning the turnover battle.
 
Last weekend, the Huskies dropped a 60-40 decision on the road to the Southeastern Lady Lions, the defending conference champions. Senior Kennedy Wilson led HCU with 11 points in the loss, connecting on 4-of-10 from the floor while also dishing out three assists with a pair of steals.
 
TAMUCC has won its last three, including an 86-69 home win over Texas A&M-Commerce this past Saturday. The Islanders out-rebounded the Lions by 20, totaling 55 boards with 25 of those coming on the offensive end. Senior Alecia Westbrook leads TAMUCC with 11.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg.
 
The Huskies are 9-15 all-time vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with the two teams trading wins over the last four meetings. Neither team has put together of win streak of more than four against the other going back to 2011.
 
The Huskies remain at home this coming Saturday, Feb. 24, for a rematch with the Lady Demons of Northwestern State at 1:00 p.m.
