MBB: Huskies fall to McNeese

HCU back on road this weekend at Southeastern

HOUSTON -- Houston Christian University fell into an early 12-2 hole after the first three minutes and never recovered, falling 105-54 to league-leading McNeese State University on Monday evening in Sharp Gym. The Cowboys hit on all cylinders from the very start in snapping a three-game losing streak to the Huskies.

Antavion Collum hit two threes in the opening run, giving the visitors a 12-2 advantage at the 17:04 mark. The Cowboys would keep up the pressure until a Dominic Capriotti three-pointer cut the lead to 20-7. McNeese would then go on a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach.

HCU shot just 25% from the floor and 22.7% from the three-point line, and committed 20 turnovers which led to 33 points by the Cowboys.

Capriotti and Marcus Greene each had 15 points for the Huskies. Pierce Bazil had eight points, while Tristan Moore hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Pokes, now 22-3 overall and 11-1 in the SLC, blistered the nets to the tune of 56.3%, and became just the second team this season to shoot over 40% from the arc against the Huskies, hitting 15-32 for 46.9%.

McNeese placed five players in double-digits, led by DJ Richards who went 5-8 from the distance for all 15 of his points. Christian Shumate had 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Shahada Wells and Collum each added 13 points as well. Javohn Garcia finished out the quartet with 11.

HCU falls to 6-17 overall and 4-8 in the Southland. The Huskies return to action this Saturday when they travel to Hammond, Louisiana to face Southeastern Louisiana. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm at the University Center.
