HOUSTON – After beginning Southland Conference play this past Saturday, the HCU women's basketball team returns to its non-conference schedule this Tuesday evening inside Sharp Gym when the Huskies host St. Thomas at 6:00 p.m.
HCU (3-5, 1-0 SLC) picked up a win in its Saturday matchup with East Texas A&M, taking down the Lions by a 62-56 final. The Huskies got a 17-point, six-assist effort from
Erin Maguire with
Tiffany Tullis posting an 11-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Jo Oly and
Kierra Prim each added 11 points in the win an combined for 14 rebounds. HCU out-rebounded its opponent for the sixth time this season in eight games.
Maguire leads the Huskies in scoring for the season, averaging nine points per game with a pair of 17-point outings. Oly is second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 7.7 ppg and 6.9 rebounds per game.
The Celts (2-4), an NCAA Division III member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, opened the season with a pair of wins but have dropped their last four. UST has also dropped three exhibitions against common opponents with the Huskies, including Sam Houston, Lamar and McNeese.
Junior Amiya Bowie and sophomore Joerdan Thomas lead the way offensively for UST, averaging 9.0 ppg. Sophomore Macie Whitfield is right behind them with 8.2 ppg and a team-best 5.0 rpg.
The Huskies and Celts have played in each of the previous three seasons with HCU earning home wins in each meeting.
HCU has one more game prior to Christmas, welcoming Sam Houston to Sharp Gym on Friday, Dec. 20, afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
