HOUSTON – HCU's current three-game homestand concludes this Sunday afternoon when they Huskies host Southwestern for a women's basketball matchup at 3:00 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
 
The Huskies (1-4) fell short the last time out, a 48-42 loss on their home floor to Tarleton State. HCU led by seven heading into the fourth quarter before the offense stalled late, scoring just four points over the final five minutes. Senior Tiffany Tullis pulled down an impressive 20 rebounds for a new career-high and the Huskies held a 40-30 advantage on the boards to continue a streak of winning the rebounding battle in all five games so far this season.
 
Tullis is now averaging 10.8 rebounds per game, ranking 13th in the nation and first in the Southland Conference. On the defensive end, Tullis is leading all Division I players with 9.4 defensive rebounds per game. As a team, the Huskies are 28th in the country with 30 defensive rebounds per game.
 
Through the first five games, the Huskies have been one of the toughest defenses when it comes to opponent field goal percentage. HCU is limiting opponents to just 20.9 percent shooting from behind the arc, ranking 10th in the nation, and holding them to 35.4 percent from the field.
 
Southwestern (2-4), an NCAA Division III member in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, has won its last two games after starting the year with four-straight losses. This past Wednesday, the Pirates defeated visiting LeTourneau at home, 61-53, behind an 18-point effort from sophomore Adrianna McCoy and a an 11-point, 15-rebound double-double from fellow sophomore Trinity Benitez.
 
McCoy and Benitez are the team's two leading scorers, averaging 10.8 and 9.2 ppg, respectively Benitez leads the way for SU with 6.8 rpg while senior Ellie Ward is second with 5.7 rpg. The Pirates have been out-rebounded over the course of the season with a -2.3 rebounding margin.
 
Sunday's matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
 
The Huskies will head north to take on Oklahoma State this Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Stillwater, Okla. at 6:30 p.m. for the team's fourth game against a Big 12 opponents the first seven games of the season.
