VB: Huskies Dominate New Orleans in Straight Sets

HCU cruises past New Orleans in commanding conference win

NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana - Houston Christian University's volleyball team secured a decisive victory against the University of New Orleans at the Human Performance Center on Saturday. With only five matches remaining before the Southland Conference tournament, the Huskies triumphed in straight sets: 25-11, 25-9, 25-18.

In the opening set, HCU established their dominance early, with Emerald Jacobs and Ana Garza leading a strong offensive attack. The Huskies' power at the net and cohesive play allowed them to cruise to a 25-11 finish, keeping UNO on the defensive throughout.

The momentum continued in Set 2 as Tatiana Evans' stellar serving and HCU's seamless teamwork left New Orleans scrambling. The Huskies claimed a commanding 25-9 win, further extending their lead as Evans' serves repeatedly set up scoring opportunities.

Set 3 saw a resilient effort from New Orleans, who managed to put up their highest score of the match with 18 points. However, HCU's dynamic offense and sharp assists from Grace McLaughlin proved too much for UNO to overcome, sealing the set at 25-18 and completing the Huskies' 3-0 sweep.

Jacobs led the offense with 9 kills, with Garza (8) and Allana Archie (7) close behind. Evans served up a standout 6 aces, while Jones added 4. Defensive efforts saw Ravyn Dash tallying 4 blocks, supported by Audrey Pearce and Jacobs with 3 each. McLaughlin coordinated the attack with 20 assists, supported by Fadal's 10, while Evans and McLaughlin also contributed 9 digs each, with Jones adding 8.

Up next, the Huskies will return home to host UIW on Tuesday, November 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Sharp Gym for another Southland Conference match.
