HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team, following its exhibition win over Concordia this past Monday, is back on the road with a short trip across town to take on the Houston Cougars this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. inside the Fertitta Center.
The Huskies (0-2) earned a 73-39 win on their home floor in their exhibition matchup against the Concordia (TX) Tornados. That game began a stretch of 10 games with nine being played in the city of Houston for head coach
Donna Finnie's team. HCU shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the floor in that win over Concordia.
Through the first two regular season games of the season, both against Big 12 opponents, HCU owns a +8 rebounding margin with
Jo Oly and
Tiffany Tullis averaging 8.5 and 8.0 rebounds per game, respectively.
HCU and Houston (0-3) have met three times previously with the last meeting coming during the 2019-20 season. The Cougars won that matchup, 82-60.
The Cougars dropped a 60-48 decision on Thursday evening to the Rice Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse. In their opening game of the season, Southland Conference member UT Rio Grande Valley came away with a 70-68 victory.
UH is shooting 36.4 percent (60-of-165) from the floor this season and just 29.8 percent (14-of-47) from beyond the arc. Redshirt sophomore Gigi Cookie leads the Cougars with 15.7 points per game, scoring 21 in Thursday's loss at Rice, while Leilani Augmon leads the team with 7.7 rpg.
HCU begins a three-game home stretch on Thursday, Nov. 21, with a visit to Sharp Gym by Utah Tech at 6:00 p.m. for the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
