VB: Huskies Fall to Southeastern Louisiana in Straight Sets

HCU drops Southland Conference match to undefeated Southeastern Louisiana in straight sets.

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU volleyball team hosted Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference match on Thursday but fell in three sets: 25-21, 25-18, and 25-20.

HCU fought hard in the first set but ultimately lost 25-21 to Southeastern Louisiana. Audrey Pearce and Emerald Jacobs led the Huskies' attack with key kills, while Alexia Jones and Tatiana Evans added aces to keep the score close. Southeastern Louisiana capitalized on several HCU errors, with strong plays from Hannah Brewer and Alexis Logarbo allowing them to build a lead. Despite HCU's efforts, including blocks from Pearce and Ana Garza, Southeastern Louisiana's late momentum secured the set.

In the second set, HCU struggled to find a rhythm and fell 25-18. Emerald Jacobs and Audrey Pearce again drove the offense with important kills, and Pearce added a late service ace. However, Southeastern Louisiana took advantage of HCU's attack errors and standout performances from Logarbo and Brewer. A service ace by Ashley Richardson helped close out the set, giving Southeastern Louisiana a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, HCU battled but was unable to close the gap, losing 25-20. Ana Garza and Audrey Pearce continued to contribute with key kills, while Katy Barger added solid attacks. Southeastern Louisiana's consistency, led by Cicily Hidalgo and Keira Beverly, along with service aces from Lexi Gonzalez and Richardson, allowed them to maintain control. Despite a late rally from HCU, with Pearce and Barger leading the charge, Southeastern Louisiana sealed the match with a final kill from Beverly.

HCU had standout performances across the board. Emerald Jacobs led the team in kills with 8, followed by Audrey Pearce with 7 and Ana Garza with 5. Alexia Jones contributed 2 service aces, while Tatiana Evans and Pearce each added 1. Defensively, Pearce and Garza were strong at the net, both recording 3 blocks, while Allana Archie added 2. Grace McLaughlin led the team in assists with 27, and Evans was a defensive anchor with 14 digs, supported by Jacobs and Bianca Byerly, who each had 7.
