WSOC: HCU Enters Final Stretch with a Pair of Home Matches

Sunday’s match is Senior Day with a special recognition after the game



HOUSTON – With the regular season winding down, HCU women's soccer plays three of its final four matches on home turf at Sorrels Field beginning with a pair this coming weekend on Friday and Sunday against Lamar and Southeastern.
 
The Huskies (3-8-4, 1-3-2 SLC) are currently in ninth place in the league standings with five points but are just four points out of fifth. Friday's opponent, Lamar (4-6-4, 2-2-2 SLC) are tied for seventh with eight points. The 2024 Southland Conference Tournament will include the top eight teams in the final standings.
 
HCU went 0-1-1 last weekend, first drawing 1-1 at Northwestern State before suffering a 2-1 loss at UIW. Sophomore Olivia Rossman scored in both matches and now leads the team with four goals this season. She and Alexa Huerta are tied for the team-lead with nine points. In conference play, freshman goalkeeper Emmy McKeon sits atop the league leaderboard with an .833 save percentage, totaling 30 saves while allowing just six goals.
 
Lamar, HCU's opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, is 0-4-1 on the road this season but is coming off a 1-0-1 home weekend. The Cardinals drew with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before defeating McNeese, 2-1. Senior forward Isela Ramirez leads LU with three goals, all of which came in SLC play, with freshman Cena Carlson leading the team with seven points thanks to two goals and three assists. A pair of goalies have split time, combining for a .759 save percentage.
 
Southeastern (6-6-1, 5-2-0 SLC) has won three of its last four and most recently won at Nicholls, 2-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Curran is right behind McKeon in SLC play with an .824 save percentage and is averaging four saves per game. Senior Hannah McCord paces the SLU offensively with four goals and an assist for the season. The Huskies and Lions square off on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 3:30 p.m.
 
Sunday will be Senior Day for the Huskies with six players getting recognized in a Senior Day ceremony after the completion of the match.
 
HCU will have a week off before making the trek to Lake Charles, La. for a Sunday, Oct. 27, matchup with the McNeese Cowgirls at 1:00 p.m.
