HOUSTON – HCU is back home in Sharp Gym this Saturday afternoon for a Southland Conference women's basketball matchup against the Nicholls Colonels with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m.
 
HCU (5-7, 0-1 SLC) has won five of the last six meetings with the Colonels (6-7, 0-1 SLC) and each of the last three meetings in Sharp Gym. Last season, the Huskies earned a 68-55 win at home behind a 20-point, eight-rebound effort from N'Denasija Collins before falling in Thibodaux, La. by a final of 64-46.
 
The Huskies opened SLC play on Wednesday in Corpus Christi, falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 73-49 final. Collins finished with eight points and nine rebounds while Amy Cotton ended the night with eight points, four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
 
Over the last four games, Cotton is averaging 10 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.3 blocked shots per game and now averages 5.9 ppg and 5.2 rpg for the season and leads the team with 14 blocked shots. She's tied for second in the conference in total blocked shots. As a team, the Huskies rank second in the SLC with 3.8 blocked shots per game.
 
Nicholls is coming off a 66-56 home loss to defending conference champion Southeastern on Thursday. Senior Mikayla Etienne and sophomore Lexi Alexander each scored 16 for the Colonels in the loss. Alexander, last season's conference freshman of the year, leads Nicholls in both scoring and rebounding with 13.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg. The 6-0 forward is shooting 40.6 percent (67-of-165) from the floor.
 
The Huskies head back on the road for their next two games, a road swing to Natchitoches, La. to face Northwestern State on Thursday, Jan. 11, before continuing on to Commerce, Texas to take on Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Jan. 13.
