COMMERCE, Texas – HCU got out to a six-point lead in the first quarter but came out on the losing end of a 63-53 decision to Texas A&M-Commerce in Southland Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Field House.
HCU (5-10, 0-4 SLC) fell behind 8-2 before sparking a 12-0 run that included three-pointers out of the hands of
Kennedy Wilson,
Erin Maguire and
N'Denasija Collins to lead 14-8. The Huskies held onto the lead the rest of the quarter, leading 19-16 after the first 10 minutes.

Jo Oly three with 7:29 on the clock in the second quarter to put HCU ahead, 26-22, before the host Lions (7-7, 2-2 SLC) scored the next eight points.
Enya Maguire broke the TAMUC run with a three-pointer but the Lions closed out the half by scoring eight more points and leading 38-29 at the intermission.
The Huskies started the second half strong, keeping the Lions off the board for more than seven minutes while scoring six and pulling within three, 38-35. HCU then headed into the final quarter trailing by four, 44-40.
A&M-Commerce began the fourth quarter with a three by Ahmya Boyce that was followed by a pair of
Kennedy Wilson free throws that gave the senior 1,000 career points and pulled HCU back to within five, 47-42. The Lions answered with a bucket before
Erin Maguire hit a triple at the 7:53 mark to again make it a four-point game, 49-45. TAMUC responded with a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Wilson started the day at 991 career points and finished with nine points against the Lions, also adding four assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Erin Maguire led the Huskies with a career-high 15 points, shooting 6-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-7 from behind the arc. Collins added 12 points and eight rebounds while Oly finished with nine rebounds and seven points.
The Huskies return to Sharp Gym on Thursday, Jan. 18 for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with the New Orleans Privateers.
