Audrey Pearce and sophomore
Grace McLaughlin were named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon after a 4-0 performance by the Huskies at the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament.
Pearce, a middle blocker, led HCU with 24 blocks across four matches and averaged 1.6 blocks per set. She recorded 10 blocks in a four-set win over Arkansas State while also adding seven kills. Pearce was also led the Huskies with 3.07 kills per set and hit .398 for the weekend. Pearce currently leads the league with 37 blocks and is averaging 1.32 blocks per set for the season.
McLaughlin, meanwhile, totaled 143 assists to average 9.53 assists per set. In four matches, she twice averaged double-digit assists with 44 in HCU's four-set win over Arkansas State and 36 in a three-set victory over Penn. The sophomore is currently pacing the conference for the season with 8.45 assists per set.
The Huskies are set for a pair of matches this coming weekend at the Rice Invitational at Tudor Fieldhouse, first facing Rice at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 8, before taking on Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, Sep. 10, at 2:00 p.m.
