HOUSTON – Sharp Gym, home of the HCU men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs, got an upgrade this summer with the installation of a new playing surface featuring a refreshed court design.
The maple surface is a Robbins floor that was installed this summer by NAH Sports Flooring and includes recycled components in the shock pads. In addition to the new flooring, the court design now features the new Husky head logo at center court, "HUSKIES" on both baselines and smaller logos with "HCU" and the Husky head together on opposite corners of the floor.
The new floor replaces the old playing surface that was originally installed in the summer of 1994.
"The new floor, with the most up-to-date suspension system on the market, provides our athletes with the best possible surface to train and perform on every day," said
Ron Cottrell, HCU's James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach. "Also, the new court design with the university's new branding, is eye-catching. Sharp Gym is a special place for our teams to compete in and this new look and floor is certainly a much-appreciated addition."
Husky fans will get their first chance to see HCU student-athletes in action on the new floor on Aug. 31 when the HCU volleyball team hosts Prairie View A&M in the opening match of the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament.
