MSOC: Finalized 2023 fixtures announced for Huskies

Eight non-conference matches on tap before OVC action begins on September 28

HCU head coach Ryan Pratt has announced the full 18-match 2023 schedule, coming in conjunction with the unveiling of the Ohio Valley Conference fixtures on Monday morning.

The Huskies accepted an invitation to become an affiliate member of the OVC in March, as the league became the 24th Division 1 conference to sponsor men's soccer. HCU was an affiliate member of the Western Athletic Conference for the past ten years and is joined by former WAC member Incarnate Word in joining the OVC.

The season will get going with a pair of exhibition matches, with HCU traveling to Dallas to take on SMU on August 12 and crosstown foe St. Thomas hitting Sorrels Field a week later.

The regular season begins with HCU hosting St. Bonaventure and Nebraska-Omaha at Sorrels Field on August 24/27. HCU's non-conference slate is split in half with four matches each at home and on the road.

Oral Roberts and Santa Clara also come to Fondren Road, a pair of home matches sandwiched by two road trips. The first journey away from home for 2023 comes as the Huskies head to Birmingham, Alabama for fixtures with Belmont and UAB. Afer the two at Sorrels, the Huskies will then trek out west to face Grand Canyon and Pacific.

The Huskies embark on the 10-game league schedule on September 28. All matches are played on Thursday's and Sunday's until the OVC Men's Soccer Championship (November 5, 8 and 11) on the campus of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

The OVC will be an eight-team league for its' first season, and the schedule features each institution playing three schools twice apiece and the other four teams once each. The Huskies will go home and home with UIW, Liberty and Chicago State. The Blue and Orange will have home games with Southern Indiana and Eastern Illinois, and road contests at SIUE and Lindenwood.

The league will expand to nine in 2024 with the addition of Western Illinois.

HCU finished the 2022 campaign, it's final in the WAC, with a 5-8-6 overall mark.

Pratt enters his sixth season at the helm, and ninth overall at HCU. The 2023 roster is highlighted by the returns of goalkeeper Alex Aitken and midfielder D'Alessandro Herrera, both of whom were chosen to the WAC All-Freshman team in 2022. The Huskies will also introduce 14 newcomers to the mix.

Players report on August 7, with training scheduled to open on August 8.
