BSB: Chumley and LaRue Earn Academic All-SLC Honors

The pair were second team selections


 
FRISCO, Texas – HCU third baseman Reed Chumley and catcher Tyler LaRue were named second team academic all-Southland Conference selections on Thursday in an announcement by the league office.
 
Chumley, also a second team all-conference honoree, won the league batting title with a batting average of .392 in 40 games played. Additionally, he led the league with a .722 slugging percentage and 1.180 OPS. Chumley's 19 doubles were third in the conference while his 11 round-trippers tied him for fifth. In 21 conference games, he recorded at least one hit in all but five of those and was second on the team in SLC play in both runs and RBI. A business major, Chumley carries a cumulative gpa of 3.07.
 
LaRue, meanwhile, finished the season third on the squad with seven home runs in 31 games played. He batted .247 for the season and added 14 RBI along with 14 runs scored. Defensively, LaRue committed just one error in 209 chances for a stellar .995 fielding percentage. The Blanco, Texas native 3.73 gpa while majoring in criminal justice.
 
The Southland Conference all-academic teams are selected through voting by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff from each participating school.
