FORT WORTH, Texas – The HCU beach volleyball team lost a 3-2 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before rebounding to down UTEP, 4-1, on Friday at the TCU Invitational.
In the opening dual of the tournament, the Huskies (13-12) lost to the Islanders (19-8) with the team's points coming at the fours and the ones. The first point came from No. 4 pair
Abbey Bufkin and
Abbey Reinard, winning in three sets (11-21, 21-16, 15-7) while No. 1 pair
Maddie Butters and
Alison Stanfill also picked up a three-set win (24-26, 21-19, 15-11).
In the Huskies' 4-1 win over UTEP (4-14),
Audrey Pearce and
Gabi Axelrod got the scoring started for HCU at the No. 5 position with a 17-21, 21-17, 15-13 win. Butters and Stanfill won at the ones (27-25, 21-18) while No. 2 pair
Lindsay Harris and
Kristen Kleymeyer earned a two-set win (21-12, 21-19). At the threes,
Mary Alper and
Paige Palmer won in three sets (22-24, 21-17, 15-9).
The Huskies will face Florida Gulf Coast and No. 1-ranked TCU on Saturday, Apr. 8, at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
