BSB: HCU Edged Out by Nicholls in Series Finale, 6-5.

BSB: The Huskies face UTSA on Tuesday

THIBODAUX, La - The Huskies were notched by Nicholls, 6-5, in the final game of the three-game Southland Conference series at Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday, April 23rd.

HCU (8-27, 5-7 SLC) were led by freshman catcher Dylan LaRue who went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and a walk. Junior designated hitter Samuel Benjamin went 2-for-4 with a run while senior leftfielder Connor Fremin went 1-for-4 with a run and a walk. Freshman pinch hitter William Jewell went 1-for-1 with a home run, three RBIs, and a run.

Senior righthander Will Ripoll (0-3) took the loss, pitching five innings to start the game allowing four earned runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Senior righthander Chad Ricker pitched two innings of relief allowing an earned run on two hits and two walks. Senior righthander Morris Austin pitched an inning of relief, allowing an earned run on two hits with a strikeout.

Nicholls (22-16, 8-4 SLC) were led by Parker Coddou who went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, a run, and a walk. Xane Washington went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Wes Toups went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

Jacob Mayers (5-1) earned the win, pitching five innings to start the game giving up two runs, no earned runs, on three hits with five walks and eight strikeouts. Nico Saltaformaggio pitched three innings of relief allowing an earned run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Huskies got on the board early scoring two runs in the top of the first inning starting with Connor Fremin scoring on a wild pitch before Samuel Benjamin scored on a double-play ball off the bat of Dylan LaRue. HCU entered the top of the ninth inning down 6-2, when William Jewell hit a three-run home run to right field scoring Logan Letney and Dylan LaRue to make it a 6-5 game.

The Colonels took the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the second inning posting three runs starting when Garrett Felix scored on a Kaden Amundson single to first base. Parker Coddou tripled to right field driving in Amundson before Jayden Kay singled through the left side scoring Coddou. Nicholls added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Austin Cain singled to left center scoring Xane Washington. The Colonels tacked on another run to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Wes Toups scored on a Washington single to left field. Nicholls last run came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Coddou singled down the first-base line scoring Amundson.

The Huskies will return to action for a non-conference midweek matchup against UTSA in San Antonio, Tx at Roadrunner Field at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25th.
