CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The 2023 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship tournament is set to begin for HCU beach on Friday morning with the No. 2 seed Huskies facing No. 7 seed Nicholls at 10:00 a.m. at Water's Edge Park.
The Huskies (15-16) earned the No. 2 seed in the double-elimination tournament by virtue of a 5-1 record in designated matches vs. conference opponents. HCU faced Nicholls (2-26) twice this season, defeating the Colonels 5-0 both times with all matches decided in two sets. The two programs first played in 2019 and HCU owns a 5-0 all-time record against Nicholls.
HCU heads into the tournament on a high note after taking down No. 10 Stanford, 3-2, at the LSU Battle on the Bayou on the final day of the regular season while newly crowned Southland Conference Pair of the Year
Maddie Butters and
Alison Stanfill took a point off fifth-ranked LSU that same day. Butters and Stanfill led the Huskies with 19 wins this season at the No. 1 position while No. 2 pair
Lindsay Harris and Kirsten Kleymeyer were right behind them with 18.
