NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The HCU No. 2 pair of
Lindsay Harris and
Kristen Kleymeyer earned a pair of wins but the HCU beach volleyball team fell in a pair of duals against CSU Northridge and Boise State on Sunday at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex.
In the first match vs. the host Matadors (4-3), HCU lost 4-1 but Harris and Kleymeyer won it in two sets, 21-18, 21-13 while three other matches went to three sets. Maddie Buttres and
Alison Stanfill fell (18-21, 21-14, 21-19) at the ones while
Shelby O'Neal and
Paige Palmer were defeated (18-21, 21-9, 15-10) at the four and the No. 5 pair of
Mary Alper and
Kylann Griffith lost in three (21-19, 18-21, 15-12).
In the second dual against fellow Southland Conference member Boise State (6-2), the Huskies came up just short, 3-2. Harris and Kleymeyer continued their strong day with another two-set win (21-17, 22-20). Butters and Stanfill picked up HCU's other point at the No. 1 position, also winning in two sets (23-21, 21-19). The pair of O'Neal and Palmer went to three (21-23, 24-22, 15-11) at the fours while Alper and Griffith fell in three (21-17, 17-21, 15-11) at the fives.
HCU will be back in Houston on their home courts next weekend for the Southland Showcase at Third Coast Volleyball Club on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 11-12, for five matches against conference opponents.
