COLUMBIA, S.C. – On a wet Sunday at Wheeler Beach on the University of South Carolina campus the HCU beach volleyball team waited through long delays before losing a 3-2 decision to Arizona State and having its match vs. 11
th-ranked Georgia State end early due to travel plans for the teams.
The Huskies (11-9) fell behind 2-0 to the Sand Devils with HCU's No. 4 pair of
Shelby O'Neal and
Paige Palmer falling in three sets (15-21, 21-19, 15-13).
Lindsay Harris and
Kristen Kleymeyer earned a point at the twos with a two-set victory (21-19, 21-14) while the Huskies' other point came from the No. 1 pair of
Maddie Butters and
Alison Stanfill in the form of a three-set win (21-18, 18-21, 15-9). Just 40 minutes into the dual a lightning delay began that would up lasting more than four hours.
The Huskies and 11
th-ranked Georgia State attempted to get their scheduled match in but travel plans for the teams resulted in a suspended dual with no results with the teams tied 1-1.
HCU returns to the Lone Star State for the matches next weekend at the Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, facing Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 31-Apr. 1.
