BSB: UIW Scores Two Late Runs to Defeat HCU, 7-6.

BSB: The Huskies conclude conference opening series on Sunday in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – UIW comes from behind in eighth inning to take game two of conference opening weekend, 7-6, against the Huskies at Daniel Sullivan Field.

The Huskies (2-20) were led by freshman rightfielder Damian Ruiz who went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and a run. Junior third baseman Reed Chumley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two walks, and a run while senior designated hitter Logan Letney went 2-for-5 with two singles. Freshman leftfielder Trent Baker went 1-for-5 with a triple and two runs.

Freshman righthander Daniel Farrow (0-1) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on one hit and a walk in .1 innings of relief for HCU. Junior righthander Jarek Wells started the game for the Huskies pitching 3.2 innings while giving up four runs, three earned runs, on four hits, four walks, and a strikeout.

The Huskies got things started early in the top of the first inning when Damian Ruiz grounded out to the shortstop scoring Trent Baker before Parker Edwards singled to right field driving in Reed Chumley. HCU added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning when Chumley singled up the middle scoring Ruiz and Samuel Benjamin . The Huskies final runs came when they retook the lead in the top of the eighth inning when Ruiz doubled to left center scoring Baker and Tyler LaRue making it a, 6-5, game.  

UIW (12-11) were led by Wilson Ehrhardt who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, two walks, and a home run. Jimmy DeLeon went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and a walk while Jared Rhodes went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI.

Ryan Schlotzhauer (2-0) earned the win, pitching .1 innings of relief for the Cardinals facing one batter. Isaiah Zavala started the game for UIW pitching five innings giving up two earned runs with six hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.

The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Wilson Ehrhardt homered to right field scoring Jared Rhodes. UIW took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, 4-2, when Matt Crump scored on a throwing error by HCU's Parker Edwards before Rhodes singled to left center scoring Grant Randall. The Cardinals retook the lead, 5-4, when Jimmy DeLeon doubled to left center scoring Crump in the bottom of the seventh inning. UIW  tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Randall scored on an RBI walk by Hernan Yanez before Ehrhardt scored the game winning run when Crump was hit-by-pitch.  

The Huskies will conclude the three-game series on Sunday, March 26th at 1 p.m. at Daniel Sullivan Field in San Antonio, Tx.
