HOUSTON – The HCU beach volleyball team concluded the Southland Showcase at Third Coast Volleyball Club with three wins on Sunday for a perfect 5-0 weekend against SLC opponents.
Two HCU (7-6) pairs,
Maddie Butters/
Alison Stanfill at the No. 1 spot and
Shelby O'Neal/
Paige Palmer at the No. 4 position, enjoyed 3-0 days. O'Neal and Palmer won all three of their matches in two sets while Butters and Stanfill went to three sets one time.
In their first dual, the Huskies picked up a 3-2 win over Boise State (9-4) to avenge a loss last weekend in California. HCU's deciding point came from the No. 2 pair,
Lindsay Harris and
Kristen Kleymeyer, with a 19-21, 21-14, 15-11 win to end the match.
In a 4-1 win over Southeastern (4-9), HCU got wins at the ones and the fours while also picking up points from
Abbey Bufkin and
Abbey Reinard at the threes along with
Gabi Axelrod and
Victoria Kenney at the fives.
In the Huskies' third dual of the day they took down New Orleans (7-5) 3-2.
Mary Alper and
Kylann Griffith added a point for the Huskies at the No. 5 position in their lone match of the day. The HCU fours put the Huskies ahead 2-0 and Butters/Stanfill secured the win with the third point.
HCU will head across the border to Louisiana for the LionUp Beach Bash next weekend, playing four duals on Friday, Mar. 17, and Saturday, Mar. 18, in Youngsville, La.
