HOUSTON – Facing a pair of Southland Conference opponents on day one of the Southland Showcase at Third Coast Volleyball Club, the HCU beach team rolled to two 5-0 wins over Nicholls and San Jose State.
In the Huskies' (4-6) first dual of the day they took down Nicholls (2-8) with the No. 1 pair of
Maddie Butters and
Alison Stanfill earning the decisive third point. Across the five matchups, the closest any of the 10 sets got was 21-16 as HCU made quick work of the Colonels.
In the next dual of the day for HCU the Huskies handed San Jose State (5-2) just its second loss of the season. The Huskies again won in 10 sets with just one set being decided by two points, 21-19, at the twos.
Abbey Bufkin and
Abbey Reinard were responsible for the winning point in the match at the No. 3 position.
The Huskies have a packed day two at the Southland Showcase ahead on Sunday, Mar. 12, with three matches beginning at 9:00 a.m. against Boise State followed by Southeastern at 1:00 p.m. and New Orleans at 3:00 p.m.
