HOUSTON – The HCU beach volleyball team opened day two at the Third Coast College Classic with a 3-2 win over UAB before falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 5-0, to close the day.
The Huskies (2-2) took down UAB (2-2) to give HCU a 3-1 all-time record against the Blazers.
Gabi Axelrod and
Shelby O'Neal picked up win number one at the fours with a hard-fought 21-19, 19-21, 15-13 win.
Abbey Bufkin and
Abbey Reinard won at the No. three spot in two sets, 21-14, 21-16 with the deciding point coming from a 21-12, 18-21, 15-9 win by
Lindsay Harris and
Kristen Kleymeyer at the twos.
In the second match of the day vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-2),
Alison Stanfill and
Maddie Butters took their match to three sets, falling 17-21, 21-15, 12-15 at the ones. At the threes, Bufkin and Reinard also took their match to three sets but lost 21-12, 11-21, 6-15.
HCU heads to California next week for four matches, first taking on Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. on Saturday, Mar. 4, before heading to Northridge, Calif. on Sunday, Mar. 5, to face CSU Northridge and Boise State.
