HOUSTON – On day one of the 2023 beach volleyball season and the Third Coast College Classic, HCU earned a 5-0 win over Central Arkansas before falling to third-ranked TCU on Saturday at Third Coast Volleyball Club.
In match one, the Huskies (1-1) rolled to the 5-0 win over Central Arkansas (0-2) with four of five matches decided in just two sets.
Maddie Butters and
Alison Stanfill rolled to a 22-20, 21-12 win at the No. 1 spot while No. 2 pair
Lindsay Harris and
Kristen Kleymeyer won in three sets, 22-20, 24-26, 15-9. At the No. 3,
Abbey Bufkin and
Abbey Reinard won 21-16, 21-14, while
Gabi Axelrod and
Shelby O'Neal won, 21-13, 21-15, at the fours. At the fifth spot,
Mary Alper and
Kylann Griffith won 21-18, 21-12.
Against the No. 3 Horned Frogs, Harris and Kleymeyer took their match to the third set but fell 21-17, 19-21, 15-8. At the ones, Butters and Stanfill lost 21-13, 21-16.
The Huskies take on UAB and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on day two at the Third Coast College Classic.
