THIBODAUX, Louisiana – HCU women's basketball is on the road for their last time this season to face the Nicholls Colonels Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 or can be listened to live on HCUHuskies.com with Garrett Jones.
HCU (11-16, 6-10 SLC) is coming off of a tough loss against the McNeese Cowgirls Thursday night in Sharp Gym. After falling behind early 7-0, the Huskies stormed back and took a 12-point lead in the first half. The Cowgirls defense held HCU to just seven made shots in the second half, finally reclaiming the lead around the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter.
Nicholls (4-23, 1-15) has lost 12-games in a row coming into this one. Their lone conference win came in overtime against the Lamar Cardinals in the middle of January. Lexi Alexander leads the Colonels offensive attack, averaging 14 points per game.
HCU beat Nicholls by 13, 68-55, in early February. Two Colonels scored 19-points, but it wasn't enough as
N'Denasija Collins had 20-points and eight rebounds and
Marilyn Nzoiwu posted a 15-point 14-rebound double-double.
Kennedy Wilson and
Abbey Sutherland also had big showings with 14 and 10-points respectively.
Collins leads the Huskies and is second in the conference in scoring averaging 14.6 points per contest. Vujakovic is the only other Husky averaging double-figures at 10.4 points per game. Nzoiwu and Sutherland are second and third in the conference in blocked shots with 34 and 33 respectively.
HCU returns home for a rare Wednesday afternoon matchup against the Southeastern Lady Lions, tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Senior presentations will take place during halftime of the men's game which will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game.
