HOUSTON – On Wednesday evening, the entire HCU student-athlete population attended a presentation by the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in the Belin Chapel on the HCU campus.
Wednesday evening's program opened with a historical re-enactment of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, along with a question and answer session. Following the historical re-enactment, a representative of the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in period clothing like that worn by the original Buffalo Solders spoke, and shared a video presentation, about the contributions of the Buffalo Soldiers throughout the history of the United States.
The only museum in the United States dedicated primarily to preserving the legacy and honor of the African-American soldier, the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is located in Houston's midtown neighborhood. The museum aims to articulate, collect, display and preserve historical artifacts, documents, videos, prints and other historical memorabilia that detail the history of the brave men and women who overcame extreme adversity while fighting the great American wars.
The HCU athletic department celebrates its diversity and different cultures represented across the department and is committed to educating its student-athletes through special programs, including an annual event planned for Black History Month.
