WACO, Texas – Baylor rally late for an 11-4 victory in non-conference baseball Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark.
HCU got off to a hot start with three runs in the top of the first before Baylor hit a grand slam to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Baylor followed up with a two run seventh inning and a five run eighth inning to close out the game.
Redshirt junior designated hitter
Reed Chumley went 1-for-4 with a homerun, a walk, and two RBIs for HCU (0-4). Freshman leftfielder
Dylan LaRue doubled and picked up an RBI and a walk, while junior first baseman
Parker Edwards tallied his second run of the season. Freshman second baseman
Cash McNicholas has a hit in both of his starts for the Huskies.
Senior righthander
Will Ripoll (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs, three earned, on three hits with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings. In freshman righthander
Jonathan Valdez's HCU debut, Valdez pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts before giving up three runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Nolan Wilson pitched a scoreless seventh inning striking out two while giving up one hit.
Colby Branch went 4-for-5 with a grand slam, two doubles, six RBIs, and scored three times for the Bears (2-2). Gavin Brzozowski was 2-for-5 with a two run homerun and four RBIs.
Hambleton Oliver (1-0) notched the win for the Bears, holding the Huskies scoreless on two walks and a strikeout over 1.2 innings pitched. Baylor used six pitchers on the night.

Parker Edwards. After a double by
Cash McNicholas,
Dylan LaRue doubled to right center scoring McNicholas.
Austin Roccaforte added HCU's last run in the top of the seventh innings thanks to a wild pitch by Oliver.
Cody Branch got the Bears back in the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when he hit a grand slam scoring Cole Posey, Zach Mazoch, and Will Pendergrass. Gavin Brzozowski added to the Baylor lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run homerun to right field scoring Branch. Baylor also added five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning starting with a Branch double down the left field line that scored Harrison Caley and Hunter Teplanszky. Brzozowski followed up with a single to right field scoring Branch and Posey. Baylor scored the last run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Brzozowski.
The Huskies return to action this weekend for the Sugar Land Classic at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
