BEAUMONT, Texas – HCU women's basketball is set for a home-and-home matchup against the Lamar Cardinals this week. First, the two teams will meet in Beaumont before traveling back to Houston and battling in Sharp Gym Saturday afternoon. Thursday's game will be aired on ESPN+ and Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3. Thursday's matchup will also be available on HCUHuskies.com with radio play-by-play from Garrett Jones.
HCU (11-13, 6-7 SLC) has won three of their last four contests. Last Saturday they traveled to San Antonio to face the UIW Cardinals, but were unable to get the offense going, losing 65-49.
N'Denasija Collins posted an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double against UIW, and her 1,000th career point is looming. She is currently just 13 points shy of becoming the 12th player in program history to reach that milestone.
Lamar (14-10, 8-5 SLC) has won their last four conference games including big wins against Texas A&M-Corpus and McNeese. Their most recent game was a 73-68 victory over the Islanders, a game that saw four Cardinals score in double-figures, Portia Adams and Sabria Dean each had 17 for the Cardinals.
Collins and
Julija Vujakovic are the only two Huskies averaging double-figures this season at 14.4 and 10.6 points respectively.
Kennedy Wilson is averaging just under 10 ppg this season. Collins is also leading HCU with 7.7 rebounds per game and has totaled eight double-doubles thus far into the season.
Marilyn Nzoiwu was on a dominant stretch over the Huskies recent win streak and is averaging just under seven points and rebounds this season. She has a team high 28 blocks while
Abbey Sutherland is just one shy at 27.
This will be the Huskies and Cardinals first time facing each other since the 2020-21 season when the Cardinals won both matchups.
