HOUSTON – This Monday afternoon marks the end of the non-conference schedule for HCU women's basketball with the Huskies hosting Schreiner inside Sharp Gym for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
HCU (4-6) hasn't played since a Dec. 6 meeting with Big 12-member Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. The Huskies led, 23-22, at the end of the first quarter before ultimately falling to the Jayhawks, 79-57. Senior
N'Denasija Collins led the Huskies with 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss while
Amy Cotton scored a career-best 12 on 5-of-8 shooting.
Collins currently leads the Huskies and is fifth in the Southland Conference with 13 points per game while her team-leading 5.8 rebounds per game rank sixth in the league. Teammate
Kennedy Wilson is fourth in the conference, averaging three assists per game while adding 10.7 ppg.
Enya Maguire has knocked down 19-of-55 (34.5 percent) from beyond the arc as the Huskies' top long-range threat this season and is scoring 8.5 ppg.
Schreiner (3-8) split a pair of home Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games this past Friday and Saturday, defeating University of Dallas, 68-40, before falling to Austin College, 79-76. Junior guard Demauria Miles leads the Mountaineers with 17.6 ppg and is shooting 81.8 percent (45-of-55) from the foul line. Madison Parham, a sophomore forward, leads Schreiner with 6.6 rpg. The Mountaineers have played a pair of Division I games already this season, falling at Sam Houston, 96-43, and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 92-40.
The Huskies and Mountaineers played during the 2012-13 season with HCU earning a 73-46 victory on Nov. 12, 2012.
The Huskies will be off until after the new year when they take on TAMUCC in Corpus Christi, Texas on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 7:00 p.m.
