HOUSTON – HCU fell behind early and fell in its season opener at Tudor Fieldhouse, dropping a 70-38 decision to Rice on Monday evening.
Rice (1-0) raced out to a quick lead and stymied the HCU (0-1) offense in the first half, limiting the Huskies to just five points for a 28-5 score at the intermission. In the second half, the Huskies were able to get as close as 22 but the Owls clamped down on any further run by the visitors.

Kennedy Wilson led HCU with 13 points, making 5-of-13 from the floor and adding five rebounds along with three steals. Freshman
Hannah Fields finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds as a starter in her collegiate debut while redshirt freshman
Erin Maguire also scored six.
HCU shot 23.2 percent (13-of-56) from the floor in the loss while Rice connected on 32.2 percent (19-of-59). The Owls out-rebounded the Huskies, 57-32, while HCU turned the ball over 25 times but forced 23 Rice miscues.
HCU returns to the court on Saturday, Nov. 11, in Huntsville, Texas to take on Sam Houston inside Johnson Coliseum at 6:00 p.m.
