Game Notes

HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team, fresh off an 80-46 win over Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, will host Howard Payne in Sharp Gym for a non-conference matchup this Monday evening at 6:00 p.m.

HCU (2-4) will aim to remain undefeated on its home floor, having won its first two home games of the season, when the Huskies take on the Lady Jackets (4-2). Last time out, the Huskies defeated a Mount St. Joseph team led by former Husky Maisie Elston by 34 points. In two home games, HCU is out-scoring opponents by 32 points per game. The Huskies and Lady Jackets have met just once before, a 93-60 win during the 2018-19 season.

The Huskies have been led offensively by the trio of Kennedy Wilson, N'Denasija Collins and Enya Maguire, with all three averaging double-digit points per game. Wilson leads the way with 11.2 ppg and her 3.2 assists per game ranks third in the Southland Conference. In last Wednesday's game, Wilson registered a career-high six steals.

Collins, a second team all-conference selection last season, has been the team's top rebounder with 4.8 rebounds per game while scoring 10.4 ppg and shooting 43.8 percent from the floor. Maguire, meanwhile, is second in the SLC with 14 made three-pointers, shooting at a 33.3 percent (14-of-42) clip.

Howard Payne opened the season with four consecutive wins but dropped back-to-back games in a tournament across town at St. Thomas this Saturday and Sunday, falling to UST and Schreiner. Freshman guard Taysie Trejo leads the Lady Jackets with 14.2 ppg and is shooting 41.7 percent (15-of-36) from beyond the arc. Asia Mitchell, a senior guard, leads the team with 6.8 rpg.

The Huskies begin a tough three-game road stretch on Friday, Dec. 1, with a trip to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech before continuing on to face Wichita State and Kansas.
