WSOC: Road Rematch vs. Lady Demons Set for Sunday

HCU aims for additional points to secure a spot in the Southland tournament

NATCHITOCHES, La. – HCU, currently tied for sixth place in the Southland Conference women's soccer standings, is on the road this Sunday for the team's final away game of the season when they face Northwestern State for the second time in a two-week window at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.

The Huskies (5-9, 3-5 SLC) and Lady Demons (5-10, 3-5 SLC) played at Sorrels Field on Sunday, Oct. 8, with NSU jumping out to a 1-0 lead at the half but a pair of second half goals from Emily Jaimes and Kat Lazor propelled HCU to a 2-1 win. The two currently sit tied for sixth in the league standings with nine points, one point behind fifth place Southeastern and three points clear of UIW in eighth. The top seven teams in the standings qualify for the SLC tournament.

For the season, sophomore Alexa Huerta leads HCU and is tied for third in the conference with five goals. Senior Mia Salas, meanwhile, has three goals and one assist in SLC play to lead the team with seven points against conference opponents. As a team, the Huskies rank second in league play in both shots per game (18.75) and shots on goal per game (8.25).

Northwestern State has been tough at home this season with a 4-2 record on their home pitch with four shutouts in the team's last five home matches. NSU has scored just six goals in eight league games thus far, scoring more than one goal just one time, in the team's 2-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Sunday. Halee Griffin and Emily Senatore each scored their first goals of the season in that win.

HCU is 7-6-1 all-time vs. the Lady Demons and owns a 4-2-1 record vs. NSU in Natchitoches.

The regular season comes to a close for the Huskies on Friday, Oct. 27, with Senior Night against the UIW Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. at Sorrels Field.
