THIBODAUX, La. – The HCU women's soccer team picked up three points in the Southland Conference standings with a 2-0 shutout win over the Nicholls Colonels on Sunday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Emily Jaimes helped set the tone for the Huskies (5-9, 3-5 SLC) with a shot on goal in the third minute. The Huskies totaled 10 shots in the first half with additional attempts on target by Katie Marker, Kat Lazor and Alexa Huerta before sophomore Adi Radwanski beat the Nicholls keeper with just seven seconds remaining in the first half for a 1-0 HCU lead at the break.
It didn't take long for Mia Salas to double the Huskies' lead in the second half, scoring from 30 yards out less than two minutes into play. Chloe Bagshaw had one save in the first half and another in the second half to go along with a team save to preserve the shutout and the win.
Radwanski's goal was her second of the season while Salas's was her third. The shutout was the third of the season for the Huskies the win moves Bagshaw to 4-6 in goal this season. HCU held a 15-4 advantage in shot attempts and put seven on goal to Nicholls' three.
HCU is in the final stretch of its 2023 campaign and the Huskies travel to Natchitoches, La. next Sunday, Oct. 22, to face Northwestern State before returning home for the regular season finale and Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 27 vs. UIW at Sorrels Field.
