Game Notes

NEW ORLEANS, La. – HCU men's basketball heads to New Orleans for a quick Southland Conference rematch against the UNO Privateers on Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena after the two teams squared off last Friday in Houston.

Saturday's game will mark the second of four instances this season where the Huskies (4-11, 1-1 SLC) will face the same team for a second time in an eight-day span. The first instance came last month when HCU played UT Rio Grande Valley at home on Dec. 10 and then played a return game in South Padre Island, Texas on Dec. 18. The Huskies and Privateers (4-9, 1-1 SLC) played in Sharp Gym on Friday, Dec. 30 with the Huskies taking a 101-96 overtime win. Later this season, HCU will face Northwestern State on Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 before playing Lamar in back-to-back games on Feb. 16 and 18.

In HCU's win over New Orleans last week, Bonke Maring led HCU with 24 points and nine rebounds that helped him earn SLC Player of the Week honors. Brycen Long added 19 points while Andrew King and Maks Klanjscek each scored 16 and Sam Hofman had 13 off the bench. The Huskies shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the win.

On Thursday evening in the team's first conference road game, the Huskies fell behind into an early 8-0 hole and never quite recovered, getting as close as two in the second half before ultimately falling to Southeastern, 71-59. HCU had a tough shooting night, hitting just 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from three-point range and 39.1 percent (18-of-46) overall from the floor.

New Orleans picked up its first conference win of the season on Thursday, earning a home win over Lamar, 81-55. Omarion Henry led the Privateers with 20 points off the bench, making 8-of-10 from the floor. UNO out-rebounded the Cardinals, 42-37, and shot 47.4 percent from the field. Jordan Johnson, who was lights-out against HCU last week and scored a career-high 39 points, struggled against Lamar. He was just 2-of-9 from the field and scored six points.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with the Husky Sports Network audio broadcast available through HCUHuskies.com with Garrett Jones providing play-by-play.

The Huskies will be back on their home floor in Sharp Gym on Thursday, Jan. 12, to face SLC newcomer Texas A&M-Commerce at 7:00 p.m. before heading back to Louisiana for a Saturday, Jan. 14, matchup against McNeese in Lake Charles.
