VB: HCU Stays Undefeated In Southland With Win Over Lamar

Huskies defeat the Lamar Cardinals in four sets

BEAUMONT, TX – HCU remain at the top of the Southland Conference standings and stay undefeated beating the Cardinals of Lamar in four sets (17-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21). Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

The Huskies (12-5, 4-0 SLC) bounced back from a tough first set to capture the next three sets and stay undefeated in Southland Conference play. The Huskies were led by senior outside hitter Anna Gadway who recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Jada Allen added 13 kills and two blocks while sophomore middle blocker Audrey Pearce had seven kills and three blocks. Redshirt freshman setter Grace McLaughlin also had a double-double with 35 assists and 16 digs. Freshman outside hitter Shelby O'Neal continues her consistent play with seven kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. The Huskies back line stayed steady led by senior libero Kaley Feris with 11 digs and freshman defensive specialist Hazel Allen added 10 digs.

The Cardinals (6-9, 0-4 SLC) were led by Paige Dugan recording 15 kills and 12 digs. Kaitlyn Gil had 14 kills and eight digs with London Hatch dished out 37 assists and had 16 digs. The Cardinals back line was led by Giselle Santini with 14 digs and two assists.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday, October 1st in Natchitoches, Louisiana to take on Northwestern State (10-6, 3-2 SLC) at 11 a.m.
