HOUSTON – HCU women's soccer is set to host consecutive home games for first time this season with Southland Conference foes Southeastern and UIW visiting Sorrels Field this Friday and Sunday. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

The Huskies (0-6-2, 0-2-0 SLC) take on the Lions (4-2-1, 2-0-1 SLC) on Friday, Sep. 23, at 7:00 p.m. The two teams split a pair of meetings last season with HBU coming out on top in Hammond, 2-1, the last time out. Felicia Hernandez and Katie Marker scored in that matchup. On Sunday, Sep. 25, HCU will take on the Cardinals (1-5-0, 0-2-0 SLC) at 1:00 p.m. UIW has won the last five meetings in the series after the Huskies won the first six.

HCU is looking to snap a three-game losing skid as the Huskies host their first SLC home games of the year. Last Friday, the Huskies came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with the Islanders scoring the game-winner in the 85th minute. Freshman Alexa Huerta scored her first collegiate goal in the loss.

Southeastern is riding a three-match unbeaten streak with SLC wins over McNeese and Nicholls to go with a 0-0 draw against defending SLC champion Northwestern State the last time out. Senior Mya Guillory leads the Lions with six points (2 goals, 2 assists) with a one-goal, one-assist effort in a 3-0 win over Nicholls. In goal, sophomore Olivia Griffin has started every game and owns a 1.34 goals against average paired with a .667 save percentage.

UIW has lost its last three, most recently falling to TAMUCC at home, 4-1. Prior to that match, the Cardinals dropped two road games beginning with a 2-0 loss at UTEP followed by a 1-0 loss at Northwestern State. The team's seven goals have come from just three different players with junior Sierra Wannamaker leading the way with three, all stemming from a hat trick against Texas Southern. Margaret  Kofron has a 3.00 gaa in five games in goal.

Following this weekend, the Huskies make the trip to Natchitoches, La. for a Friday, Sep. 30, matchup against Northwestern State at 7:00 p.m.
