MSOC: Huskies Score Six Again, Down Howard Payne

HCU Will Finish Homestand on Sunday Against UIW

Houston - The HCU men's soccer team posted its second consecutive 6-0 shutout on Wednesday evening at Sorrels Field against the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

The Huskies (3-3-2) dominated possession throughout the course of the game and were immediately on the offensive, scoring in the eighth minute. Bryant Farkarlum scored the game's first goal with assists credited to Luis Poblacion and Bangelee Sesay. Jorge Mandujano found the net less than eight minutes later, scoring his first goal of the year. Sesay, already with an assist, made it 3-0 in the 24th minute Farkarlun returning the favor on the assist while D'Alessandro Herrera was also in on the assist action. Farkarlun made it a brace at the 38:05 mark, scoring his second goal of the night with another assist from Poblacion.

The Huskies were given a gift in the 70th minute as one of the Howard Payne (2-3-2) defenders put a header into their own goal while trying to clear a corner kick. The Huskies' final goal came after a perfect through ball split the Yellow Jacket back line and found Abu Kamara in stride one-on-one with the keeper with Kamara making a move to his right to be the keeper and score on an open net in the final minute.

HCU totaled 23 shots while holding the visitors to just three total attempts. The Huskies also earned 14 corners to HPU's zero.

The Huskies will finish their homestand on Sunday, September 25, against the UIW Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. at Sorrels Field.
