CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The HBU women's soccer team is back to conference play on the road this Friday evening when the Huskies face Southland Conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
HBU (0-5-2, 0-1-0 SLC) is still searching for its first win of the season, dropping its last two games. The Huskies' conference opener was last Friday on the road against Texas A&M-Commerce with the host Lions taking a 4-1 win over HBU. The Huskies also played their first home game of the year on Sunday, falling to crosstown foe Houston, 3-1.
Xya Balderas and
Ryan Ford each scored their first goal of the season last weekend.
The Islanders (3-3-0, 0-1-0 SLC) have dropped their last two matches, most recently losing their SLC opener at Lamar, 1-0. Forwards Maggie Murray and Morgan Westbury are tied for the team-lead with four goals apiece. Murray has been especially efficient, scoring four goals on just six shot attempts this season. In goal, junior Kennedy Stelling has played the majority of the minutes with a 1.56 goals against average.
HBU owns a 7-1-2 all-time record against TAMUCC and earned a 2-0 win in the last meeting with Balderas and
Felicia Hernandez scoring goals.
The Huskies return home to Sorrels Field for their next two games next weekend, hosting Southeastern on Friday, Sep. 23, and UIW on Sunday, Sep. 25.
