HOUSTON – Rice scored the only goal of the match on a 30
th minute corner kick and held off the HBU women's soccer team the rest of the way to hand the Huskies a 1-0 loss on Thursday evening at Holloway Field.
The Owls (2-3-0) had a Mikala Furuto attempt on target but the HBU (0-3-1) defense was able to keep it out of the net for a team save. Rice managed three more shot attempts before a Mariana Elizondo shot was saved by Huskies' goalkeeper
Chloe Bagshaw, resulting in an Owl corner kick. Madison Kent got a head on the service from Grace Collins for a 1-0 Rice lead in the 30
th minute.
Through the first 36 minutes, the Owls held a 6-1 advantage in shot attempts. The rest of the way, HBU would out-shoot the Owls 5-4.

Juliana Anchondo recorded HBU's only other shot on goal in the 68
th minute.
For the match, the Owls held a 10-6 advantage in shot attempts and put seven shots on goal to HBU's two. The Huskies earned two corners in the match to Rice's six. Salas and
Felicia Hernandez led HBU in shots with two attempts each and Bagshaw finished the game with five saves.
HBU heads up I-45 on Sunday, Sep. 4, for a matchup with former Southland Conference rival Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas at 1:00 p.m.
