VB: HBU Sweeps TSU in Double Header

HBU dominates in back-to-back straight set matches

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In a double header matchup against TSU today, the Huskies dominated, sweeping both games in three sets. The Huskies won the first match in straight sets (25-14, 25-17,25-21) and continued the momentum into the afternoon, winning the second match (25-17,25-13,25-12) at the Cardinal Classic hosted by UIW.

Senior middle blocker Jada Allen led the Huskies in the first match with 12 kills, 12.5 points, and 1 dig. Senior outside hitter Anna Gadway added nine kills, ten digs, and 9.5 points to the tally. Redshirt freshman setter Grace McLaughlin assisted 30 times adding 11 digs and one kill. Junior outside hitter Sara Arroyo added eight kills, two digs, and 8.5 points on the way to victory.

In the second match, Arroyo led the way with 14 kills, two digs, two blocks, and 15 points. Sophomore Audrey Pearce recorded 13 kills, four digs, three blocks, and 16.5 points. McLaughlin continued to dominate the assist category with 44 assists, 14 digs, and one point. Senior libero Kaley Feris added 11 digs and one point.

Chenise Cook hit .176 and totaled six kills for the Tigers. Thalia Cordero-Moreno had six kills and two digs while setter Dallas Balanay-Flores added ten assists and four digs in the first match.

Cordero-Moreno kept things going for the Tigers in the second match recording nine kills, five digs, and nine points. Cook added four kills, three digs, and two blocks, while Balanay-Flores assisted 13 times adding eight digs.

HBU hosts its home opener against UC Riverside in the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 2nd. The Huskies will then take on Bethune-Cookman Friday evening at 6 p.m. before closing out the tournament in a match against ULM on Saturday, September 3rd at 2 p.m.
