HBU wins both matches on Day 1

HOUSTON – HBU won both matches today in the Molly Howard Gerwig Memorial Tournament starting with UC Riverside in three straight sets, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-22).
 
The Huskies had a .232 attack percentage, their best coming in the second set (.353) while they held the Highlanders to just .148 percent for the contest.
 
HBU (4-1) senior outside hitter Anna Gadway had 12 kills kills while hitting at a .333 clip. Redshirt freshman Grace McLaughlin had a game high 13 digs and 28 assists while junior libero Kaley Feris had 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Sara Arroyo had 10 kills and added a block.

Delaney Tate led the way for the Highlanders having nine kills and seven digs. Tayler Hifo had 30 assists and Kenzy Militar had nine digs for the Highlanders.
 
The Huskies led the Highlanders in digs (49-36), blocks (10-3), assists (37-33), and kills (40-33).
 
HBU got off to a rough start in match two, but won three straight sets to close beat Bethune-Cookman in four, 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-17).
 
The Huskies were again led by Gadway with 19 kills, four assists, and five digs. Grace McLaughlin continued to shine with 44 assists and 12 digs while Kaley Feris had 13 digs. Freshman outside hitter Shelby O'Neal had 10 kills and a block.
 
Jasmine Moore led the way for the Wildcats with 14 kills and eight digs while Alisha Callender led the team with 18 assists and 11 digs.
 
The Huskies return to action in the Molly Howard Gerwig Memorial Tournament Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against ULM in Sharp Gym.
