SAN ANTONIO, Texas – HBU and host UTSA played to a 0-0 tie in women's soccer action to open the 2022 season on Thursday evening at the Park West Athletics Complex.
In the first half, the Huskies (0-0-1) were on the offensive early with
Xya Balderas putting the first shot attempt of the game on target but UTSA (0-0-1) goalkeeper Jil Schneider made the save to the top left.
Ryan Ford and
Mia Salas also had shot attempts in the first 11 minutes for HBU. HBU keeper
Chloe Bagshaw was first tested and made the first save of her collegiate career in the 21
st minute.
Juliana Anchondo put another shot on goal just two minutes later but it was again kept out of the goal. The Roadrunners' Kiran Singh had an attempt go off the crossbar in the 27
th minute.
UTSA came out in the second half and reeled off the first seven shots of the period with Bagshaw making a pair of saves and another hitting the post in the opening 13 minutes.
Katie Marker had a shot saved in the 59
th minute with HBU's lone shot on goal in the second half and Bagshaw made another three saves in the final 12 minutes to secure the shutout.
Bagshaw finished with six saves in her first career game in goal while two UTSA counterparts combined for three saves. Balderas led the Huskies with two shots attempted. For the game, the Roadrunners held a 27-7 advantage in shots.
The Huskies will have a week off before heading north to take on North Texas in Denton, Texas on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
