HOUSTON – The HBU Huskies dropped their final home game of the season to the Nicholls Colonels in a pitcher's duel at Husky Field Saturday afternoon.
Sarah Venker threw the lights out of the ball for the Huskies (14-27, 4-13 SLC) on her senior day, allowing just three hits and one, unearned run in her seven innings of work. Although she picked up the loss on the say, Venker lowered her season average to 3.44.
Jasie Roberts picked up two hits for the Huskies while
Shelby Echols, Venker, and
Riley Martin all had hits for HBU.
The Colonels (12-32, 4-11 SLC) scored the only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning following a Husky error. Brittney Turner picked up the win for Nicholls, allowing five hits while striking out one and walking three over five innings of work. Paris Lehman came in relief of Turner in the sixth innings and picked up the save while pitching two clean innings for the Colonels.
Today's game was the final Southland Conference game of the season for the Huskies who will travel to Hammond, Louisiana on May the 10
th to take part in the Southland Tournament.
The Huskies return to action next Saturday when they travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on the Tarleton State Texans in a non-conference double header.
