SB: Huskies Drop Two to Cowgirls

HBU heads to San Antonio to take on the UIW Cardinals beginning on Friday

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana – The HBU softball team dropped both games of a double header to Southland foe McNeese Cowgirls Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Diamond.
 
In game one, the Cowgirls (19-14, 5-0 SLC) got on the board in the first inning with a three run home run from Poullard. The Cowgirls extended their lead to 6-0 through three innings before Caitlyn Brockway came up in the top of the fourth and sent a blast to left field to put the Huskies (10-18, 0-5 SLC) on the board. The Cowgirls scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 9-1.
 
Brockway got both hits for HBU in this one, sending a double down the left field line in the top of the first inning.  
 
Madison Cotton (2-5) got the start for the Huskies and allowed nine runs, eight earned, 12 hits, and three strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work. Shaelyn Sanders (6-0) got the win for the Cowgirls, striking out twelve while giving up two hits over 6.0 innings of work.
 
In game two, the Cowgirls jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings before Jasie Roberts sent a home run to center field for HBU. McNeese responded with a two run homer of their own in the bottom half of the frame before scoring one more run in the bottom of the fifth and ending things at 9-1.
 
Lyndie Swanson (4-3) got the start for the huskies and allowed nine runs and eight hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Ashley Vallejo (8-6) got the win for the Cowgirls, giving up one run and two hits over five innings of work.
 
The Huskies will take the field next in San Antonio when they face the UIW Cardinals in a three game series beginning on Friday.
