HOUSTON –
Lyndie Swanson was in dominating form as she threw a complete game shutout in game one before picking up her first save of the season in game two against the Nicholls Colonels Friday night at Husky Field.
In game one, Swanson struck out four while allowing just three hits and one walk in a complete game shutout of the Colonels. The Huskies scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice ground out from
Kaicey Hagler.
Caitlyn Brockway was a perfect 3-for-3 in the first game for HBU.
Haylie Savage and
Sarah Venker also had hits for the Huskies.
Game two saw
Madison Cotton dominate Nicholls over the first six innings of the game before the Colonels bats woke up in the top of the seventh.
The Huskies scored one run in the second and fourth innings before a two base error and a pair of sac flies by Venker and Hagler brought in three runs for the Huskies in the fifth. The extra insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a
Jasie Roberts infield single proved to be the game winning hit.
Cotton did not allow a hit through six innings before back-to-back hits to open the seventh innings gave the Colonels life. A three run homer followed by a two run homer with one out cut the HBU lead to just one before Swanson came in relief of Cotton.
Swanson allowed a single to the first hitter she faced before Roberts threw a laser to
Shelby Echols at second base to catch the pinch runner trying to steal and eliminate the threat. The next batter flew out to left field and Swanson picked up her first save of the season.
The Huskies return to action at noon on Saturday, looking to sweep the Colonels on senior day.
Sarah Venker,
Madison Cotton, and
Caitlyn Brockway will all be honored on the field post game.
