SB: Bats Fall Quiet as Huskies Drop Two to Islanders

Final game of the series is set for noon tomorrow

HOUSTON – The Huskies dropped the first two games of a three game series against the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders Friday evening at Husky Field.

A complete game from Lyndie Swanson in game one was not enough as the Husky (12-22, 2-7 SLC) bats fell quiet and lost 1-0.

The Islanders (16-22, 4-4 SLC) scored the only run of the game in the third inning. With runners on first and third, Jaquelin Garza stole second and a throwing error from the Huskies allowed Pal Egan to score from third.

Grace Gilbert threw a complete game shutout for the Islanders giving up eight hits and walking one while striking out six over her seven innings of work.

For the Huskies, Shelby Echols went 3-for-4 including a double to right center while Haylie Savage went 2-for-3 at the dish. Lyndie Swanson threw her third consecutive complete game, giving up one unearned run, striking out five, and allowing four hits in her seven innings of work.

The second game of the double header saw the Islanders run away with a 7-0 win. They put up two runs in the first, a run in the third, two in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh. Sydney Hoyt and Haley Morse each hit two-run homers for the Islanders. Siarah Galvan got the start for TAMCC and threw a complete-game shutout, striking out two and allowing five hits over seven innings of work.

Madison Cotton got the start in the circle for the Huskies before being relieved by Sarah Venker. Cotton gave up three runs, two earned, over three innings of work, allowing six hits and striking out one. Venker threw the final four innings for the Huskies, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out two.

Echols and Kaicey Hagler each had two hits for HBU in the second game.

The final game of the series is scheduled for a noon first pitch on Saturday. That game can be seen live on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
