HOUSTON – The HBU softball team dropped a midweek game against the Sam Houston Bearkats Wednesday night at Husky Field.
 
Sam Houston (11-31, 4-11 WAC) got on the board early in the first inning. Hobbs doubled to deep right center field to drive in Fisher who singled to open up the game for the Bearkats.
 
The Huskies (12-20) did not let the deficit last long however when 
Caitlyn Brockway came to the dish in her first plate appearance and hit a towering shot to center field to even things at one. Sam Houston responded with two runs in the top of the third before icing the game with two more in the top of the fifth.
 
Madison Cotton got the start for HBU, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three in her three innings of work. 
Sarah Venker came in relief and closed the game out for the Huskies allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out three over four innings of work. Offensively, Breanna Herrera and 
Haylie Savage recorded the other two Husky hits
 
Brailey Wasik was credited with the win for the Bearkats, allowing one run on three hits and struck out five over 4.1 innings pitched. Regan Dunn came in relief tossing 2.2 perfect innings registering one strikeout.
 
The Huskies open up a three game Southland series against Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a Good Friday double header beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Husky Field. All three games of the series can be streamed live on ESPN+ and on the ESPN app.
