HOUSTON – HBU found itself in a 3-0 hole after the top of the first and never recovered, falling in Southland Conference action to Northwestern State, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
 
Freshman Haylie Savage was the long HBU (10-15, 0-3 SLC) player to register multiple hits in the contest, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles. The Huskies' only extra-base hit of the game came off the bat of sophomore Kaicey Hagler who also scored HBU's run on a sacrifice fly from Riley Martin.
 
Kat Marshall drove in four runs for Northwestern State (10-12, 3-0 SLC) on 2-for-3 hitting. The Lady Demons out-hit HBU just 5-4 but took advantage of seven walks by the HBU pitchers.
 
Sarah Venker (1-5) took the loss for the Huskies, finishing the day with one and a third innings pitched, recording just one out in the first inning and returning to pitch the seventh. She finished with three earned runs allowed on zero hits and four walks. Lyndie Swanson threw five and two thirds innings in relief, allowing four runs with just one earned, on five hits and three walks. Swanson struck out four.
 
Bronte Rhoden (3-3) earned the win in the circle for NSU, throwing a complete game and allowing just one earned run on four hits and one walk with two punch-outs.
 
The Huskies head east on I-10 for a Tuesday, Mar. 29, matchup against former SLC member Lamar in Beaumont, Texas at 5:00 p.m.
