HOUSTON – HBU trailed by six at the half but out-scored visiting Southeastern 49-30 in the second half to take a 93-80 Southland Conference win over the Lions in Sharp Gym on Saturday night.

Senior Darius Lee, who scored 30 in Thursday's game against Northwestern State, poured in a career-best 32 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor. He was 12-of-13 from the charity stripe and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Lee also matched his career-high in steals, with six, pulled down eight rebounds and had three assists. In conference play, Lee now ranks in the top-10 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and field goal percentage.

The game started out with the two teams trading leads with HBU (7-13, 3-4 SLC) taking a pair of four-point leads, the second of which came after a pair of Deshon Proctor free throws at the 13:12 mark made it a 15-11 game. Southeastern (12-12, 4-3 SLC) then went on a 9-1 run to lead 20-16 just a minute and a half later. The Lions maintained a lead, pushing it as high as eight, with a little over seven minutes to go in the half.

The Huskies then chipped away and regained the lead on a Lee breakaway dunk with 5:00 on the clock and went back ahead by four, 42-38, on a Jade Tse free throw two minutes and thirty seconds later. The Lions scored the next 12 points, however, to go ahead by eight before Tse hit a runner just ahead of the buzzer to send the teams into the locker rooms with SLU ahead, 50-44, at the break.

Brycen Long knocked down a three to open the second half and from there the Huskies would trail by no more than five at any point. Another Long trey at the 11:33 mark pushed HBU back into the lead, 62-61. Southeastern's final lead of the game came just under the 10-minute mark when Nick Caldwall made one of two free throws, bringing the score to 66-64.

An 11-4 HBU run, with scoring from five different players over the next five minutes gave the Huskies a 77-68 lead with 4:47 to play. Southeastern scored the next three points to cut the HBU lead back down to six but a Khristion Courseault steal led to a fast break layup from Sam Hofman followed by Courseault drawing an offensive foul on the next SLU possession. The Huskies capitalized on the ensuing possession with Long hitting his third three-pointer of the game and converting the and-one for a four-point play and HBU's first double-digit lead of the night with just 3:08 to go. The Huskies maintained a double-figure lead the rest of the way, knocking down 6-of-8 from the foul line in the final 1:11 of the game to hold off the Lions.

Long finished the night with 15 points, shooting 3-of-7 from deep and 4-of-9 from the floor. Tse had 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting and matched his career-high with four steals. Zach Iyeyemi led the Huskies with nine rebounds while Courseault, Hofman, Proctor and Tristan Moore all scored seven points.

The Huskies out-rebounded the Lions 43-31, including 13 on the offensive end. The Huskies forced 21 turnovers while committing 20 miscues. HBU finished the game shooting 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the field, 30 percent (6-of-20) from three and 77.5 percent (31-of-40) from the charity stripe. The Lions were 46.4 percent (26-of-56) for the game, 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from long range and 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the foul line.

The Huskies were wearing their Hustlin' Husky throwback uniforms, which they have worn once each year for the last eight seasons. HBU is now 6-2 while wearing the 1970's era uniforms.

The Huskies will be back on the road for their next three games, beginning with a trip to Natchitoches, La. this coming Thursday, Feb. 10, for a rematch against the Northwestern State Demons.
